Today

Epic's last Fortnight of Fortnite tournaments has not gone well.

Stories

  • It was discovered last week than Bungie had snuck a secret quest mission into Destiny 2 reminiscent of a secret quest in Destiny 1.
  • A content creator hired by the creators of the mobile game Marvel Strike Force has had is account migrated from the main game to a test server amidst accusations of cheating by the rest of the playerbase. Nightly Gaming, the influencer in question, was provided in game assets by Foxnest, the developer, in order to create video guides for the game. And then he just kept playing the game.
  • The Fortnite Summer Skirmish was a bit of a disaster. The Summer Skirmish, a season spanning event with $8 million on the line, kicked off with a $250,000 tournament pitting top tier players and content creators against one another, and then not against one another. The issues arose early with awful lag making for bad gameplay and an even worse viewing experience, and so Epic switched thing up, and instead of these top players and content creators playing one another it because a points system of how these players did in just normal queues.
  • Since the Nintendo Switch was successfully hacked months ago, there were concerns people were going to do much more than change their avatars to anime screenshots, or fill the Super Mario Odyssey balloon quest with porn. And finally that concern has paid off. Multiplayer hackers have started to surface in Splatoon 2 and a recent stunt has drawn widespread attention to it. The top 4 spots on the leaderboard were for "Please", "Add", "Anti", "Cheat".

Coming Up

Bethesda says it is large enough that it's unlikely that they will need to use outside studios for development. So don't worry, "mistakes" like Fallout: New Vegas, often considered the best game of the series, won't happen again.
